The eponymous double album by Blood Sucking Maniacs, the Allen family band helmed by Terry and Jo Harvey Allen and spanning five generations, is out today, in shops and streaming worldwide. 121 years in the making, it’s the first release of all-new Terry Allen recordings since 2020’s Just Like Moby Dick.

The Rio Grande. “Down to the River,” out today, is Jo Harvey Allen’s moving duet with Terry, a paean to their love of, and through, travel and the record’s spiritual centerpiece, containing its most singular and breathtaking image. We are suddenly transported to the Bay of Bengal, “Where bonfires reflect the slow dark oxen / Where a hundred blue sails draw against the dawn.”

Following closely on the heels of his acclaimed second solo record, Around Sound, Mike Polizze is releasing an instrumental outtake from the album recording sessions, titled “Improvs 1,” demonstrating the album’s new emphasis on acoustic fingerpicking, which is, according to tourmate Ryan Davis, “a beautifully tense, peacefully unrelaxed, low-key sizzler of an instrumental track that shines bright enough to blind your brain for a brief moment before refocusing your vision, resettling your ears, and starting the whole goddamn album over from the top.”

Jennifer Castle has shared a new video for standout, organ-stained Camelot track “Mary Miracle,” with its bloody invocations of faith. Castle will be touring through the fall, playing solo, with a band, and supporting Destroyer in Canada, the US, and UK (at End of the Road Festival). Camelot is out now.
