Today, Mega Bog shares “Truth In The Wild,” the latest single off her forthcoming new album Dolphine. Gorilla Vs. Bear, who premiered the song and its accompanying video today, write that “the dream-like video acts as the perfect visual complement to the song’s breezily mystical vibe, offering a misty window into Birgy’s mind… Her vivid, almost mantra-like free association lyrics elegantly flowing over the measured, jazzy instrumentation, as she blurs the lines between the surreal and the profound in a way that she seems able to do like none other.”

The video was directed by Vanessa Haddad, who says it “melds inspiration from early Top of the Pops-style live-music performances and the science-fiction worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin, especially her story ‘Diary of a Rose.’ In the story, a ‘psychoscopist’ uses new technology to view the projected subconscious imagery of her patient.”

Erin Birgy writes:

“Truth In the Wild” came together scrapbooking through the multiple realities simultaneously experienced in a summer driving endlessly around the eastern coast, living in my partner’s van, having the first moments of solitude in my adult life that I embraced. The title is a quote from an Ian Cheng interview I was read aloud and very moved by. The scenes in the song are quotes, ideas, and observations from Assateague Island, The Met, the window of my cabin at Outlier Studios, a childhood dream that Zach and I both had where we first met, David Bowie, and the milk of my own perspective on these things. I value this song more than maybe any other piece of music I’ve completed.”

Mega Bog is the fluid musical moniker of songwriter Erin Elizabeth Birgy, a Pacific Northwestern rodeo child with an unmistakable laugh, who was allegedly cursed upon conception. She has spent the last ten years channeling, capturing, and releasing her unique bouquet of fragrant, sci-fi pop experiments with a handful of bicoastal collaborators. Mega Bog has visited a significant portion of the Western world, frequently looping the USA and Europe to sing in tiny art spaces and haunted historical theaters alike. The live concerts are known for their emotional unpredictability. Onstage, Erin’s current mood is amplified, for better or for worse; she is an honest and unflinching performer.
