Jake Xerxes Fussell Gets Good and Green Again
Happy Halloween and Día de los Muertos!
The waning of yet another savage year is at hand, but we have a soft spell to lift spirits, living, dead, or undead—a new song and album from our good friend Jake Xerxes Fussell, pride of Columbus, Georgia and Durham, North Carolina.
Jake’s phenomenal fourth album Good and Green Again finds the acclaimed folksong interpreter, guitarist, and singer navigating fresh sonic and compositional landscapes on the most conceptually focused, breathtakingly rendered, and enigmatically poignant record of his wondrous catalog. Produced by James Elkington (Jeff Tweedy, Michael Chapman, Steve Gunn, Nap Eyes, etc.) and featuring formidable players both familiar (Casey Toll, Libby Rodenbough) and new (Joe Westerlund, Bonnie “Prince” Billy), it includes Jake’s first original compositions; atmospheric arrangements with pedal steel, horns, and strings; and cover art by Art Rosenbaum.

Album opener and first single “Love Farewell” is an elliptical tale of love, yearning, and collective folly.
Oh my love, you know I love you
Nothing on this earth that I love like I love you
Over and over, ten times over
Drink up the liquor, boys, turn the glasses over
