Following the premieres of “The Road Reversed” via NPR Music and Julie Tippetts cover “Now If You Remember” via Stereogum, Nathan Bowles has shared another track from his heady forthcoming album Plainly Mistaken (out Oct. 5). The indelibly careening melody of “Fresh & Fairly So”—a staple of recent live sets—could be an old-time standard of the type Bowles might explore with the Black Twig Pickers, but here it’s given the kinetic trio treatment. Nathan describes the song this way:

“‘Fresh & Fairly So’ is a tribute to those moments in our lives where, despite our shortcomings and capacity for making the same mistakes again and again, we’re each able to resonate in harmony with our innner selves, our outward intentions, our fellow travelers — moments few & far between, but necessary and vital.  It’s not a  celebratory tune per se, but it’s far from navel-gazing, which can be my default mode if I’m not too careful.”

Join the trio at their release show at Nightlight in Chapel Hill, NC on Sept. 29!
