A new Hiss Golden Messenger album, given the songs’ lyrical concerns for the cycles of nature and truths both cosmic and domestic, always seems to correspond somehow to a season’s reach. We released the autumnal Poor Moon on the Day of the Dead (Nov. 1) back in 2011, and the new eagerly anticipated, full-length, full-band follow-up, Haw, arrives on April 2, at the crest of Spring.
We are delighted to announce yet another addition to the PoB roster of contemporary artists: young Nashville country-rock band Promised Land. Despite only being together for a short while, these boys are already choogling like a well-oiled machine, conjuring visions of the International Submarine Band, CCR, and Jesse Ed Davis.
We’re elated to announce the addition of guitarist and songwriter Steve Gunn to the growing Paradise of Bachelors roster. His forthcoming trio record Time Off, slated for release in late Spring 2013, finds him in the good company of longtime collaborators John Truscinski (drums) and Justin Tripp (bass), deploying his signature virtuosic guitar style framed by the most commanding vocal performances he’s yet committed to tape.

We’re excited for 2013, a year when we’ll be growing the label significantly and releasing a number of deep-digging reissues as well as some exciting releases by contemporary artists. However, the news today is that we are now accepting pre-orders for PoB-05, the first-ever reissue of the harrowing, choogling 1983 album by the Red Rippers.
In honor of Veterans Day–officially today, but observed tomorrow–we’re sharing a stream of the Red Rippers album track “Body Bag,” a devastating song about the disjunction between a “jungle-bound grunt’s” aspirations to aviation and the brutal occasion for him finally getting “his ride” on high.
Paradise of Bachelors is proud to present the first-ever reissue of the previously obscure 1983 LP by the Red Rippers, entitled Over There … and Over Here.
The Bachelors have just returned from a fruitful fieldwork visit to Nashville, Music City, USA, where we had the honor and privilege of spending several days with our friend Chance Martin (aka Alamo Jones, General Chance, the Stoned Ranger, and the Voice in Black), the mastermind, impresario, and visionary songwriter, bandleader, and singer behind the brilliant, unheralded countrydelic 1981 LP In Search, credited simply to Chance and released on his own Macho imprint.
Fall has landed here in North Carolina, and fittingly, Durham’s own Hiss Golden Messenger is on the turntable. Nearly a year ago–on the Day of the Dead, to be exact–we released HGM’s excellent Poor Moon album, and this fall we’re working hard to help prepare their superb follow-up LP, entitled Haw.
