Dear friends of Paradise,

The summer heat us upon us, and what better season to announce the forthcoming release of Steve Gunn’s new album Way Out Weather ? Read on for details about this masterful record and how to pre-order in various formats. You can stream the first single, “Milly’s Garden,” courtesy of NPR’s All Songs Considered, whose Otis Hart writes that Gunn’s virtuosic guitar work is still the main attraction, but his backing band of session players gives the song a Rolling Stones-circa-Exile on Main Street vibe. The sick instrumental jam that unfolds after about two and a half minutes is simultaneously earthy and epic.”

A heady and elliptical travelogue, Way Out Weather demonstrates a radical widescreen evolution for Steve, featuring a larger band and lighting out for lusher, more expansive and impressionistic territories than the critically acclaimed Time Off (2013). This is the virtuosic guitarist and songwriter’s career-defining statement to date, a self-assured masterpiece that completes Gunn’s satisfying transformation into a mature songwriter, singer, and bandleader of subtlety and authority. The record features longtime musical brothers Jason MeagherJustin Tripp, and John Truscinski, in addition to newcomers Nathan Bowles (Black Twig Pickers, Pelt); James Elkington (Freakwater, Jeff Tweedy); Mary Lattimore (Thurston Moore, Kurt Vile); and Jimy SeiTang (Psychic Ills, Rhyton.) We hope you dig it as much as we do. Please visit the album page for additional details.

Read on for confirmed US and EU tour dates, including dates with The War on Drugs, Michael Chapman, and Mike Cooper.

Praise for Steve Gunn:

– It’s impossible to just talk about Steve. He’s too good! I just want to listen to him. Hearing Steve, I was completely blown away, beyond. It mad me want to be part of it myself. – Kurt Vile
– Appalachian mandalas. Cosmic folk songs that feel highly intricate and effortlessly propulsive, like Robbie Basho sitting in with the Doors. – The Washington Post
– A voice as rich and warm as Tim Buckley or a young Van Morrison. – The Wire
– Mesmeric. Spiraling guitar songs that give more than they ask. – Pitchfork
– Luminous, blooming, meditative chants. Just beautiful. – James McNew (Yo La Tengo)
